applying for the Colorado Concealed Handgun Permit
Recognized by most Colorado County Sheriffs
HR24-1174 requires at least 8
hours of instruction conducted by a Verified Instructor for the
Refresher Course
The following topics are to be included in this course:
Knowledge and safe handling of firearms and ammunition.
Safe storage of firearms and child safety
Safe firearms shooting fundamentals
Federal and state laws pertaining to the lawful purchase, ownership,
transportation, use, and possession of firearms, Extreme Risk
Protection Orders described in Article 14.5 of Title 13, Requirements
for reporting lost or stolen firearms as described in C.R.S.
18-12-113., Requirements for secure firearms storage as described in
C.R.S. 18-12-114, State laws pertaining to the use of deadly force for
self-defense, Best practices to ensure concealed handgun permit holders
safely interact with law enforcement personnel who are responding to an
emergency
Instruction regarding techniques for avoiding a criminal attack and how
to manage a violent confrontation, including conflict resolution and
judgmental use of lethal force.
Elements required for the
refresher certificate: Students must complete
a written Concealed Handgun Competency exam [open book] which tests the
student's knowledge of the subjects described in C.R.S. 18-12-205.5
[3](a) to [3](f) with a minimum score of 80% [80% of 100 points].
Complete live-fire exercise on a range, discharging at least 50 shots
with a minimum 70% accuracy score [70% of 100 points].
Course includes Colorado Revised
Statutes Handout, Course Presentation handout, and live fire exercises
to prepare for the shooting qualification.
Student provides: Handgun, 2 magazines or speedloaders [3 are betterbut
not required] and 100 cartridges; handgun can be any caliber to include
22Rimfire and any sighting system to include optics.

your appointment, the completed unsigned two page application. If the
application is not fully completed, it cannot be processed.
Valid Colorado Drivers License or State ID with full legal name and
current El Paso County address.
$135.00 payable by CASH (exact change REQUIRED, the Sheriff’s Office
cannot make change), DEBIT/CREDIT CARD with 2.39% bank fee or $2.00 or
whichever is greater,
PERSONAL CHECK, MONEY ORDER, or CASHIER’S CHECK; non-cash payments are
made payable to E.P.S.O. This includes the fee for the background,
fingerprint check (CBI
Cost) and the processing fee for the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.
